| Netflix explains how to prevent account password sharing |
Netflix has announced that it will start cracking down on password sharing in the first quarter of this year. The OTT company announced its quarterly results last week. The change is being tested in some countries, with the streaming giant claiming users who share Netflix accounts are reducing the company's revenue. The company announced last year that it would crack down on password sharing. Netflix has specified a way to prevent users from sharing account passwords. Sharing a password with users outside the subscriber's household is becoming increasingly complex and may result in additional charges for sharing one account in different locations.
If the new device linked to your primary account is in a different location, Netflix requires you to enter a temporary 4-digit girlfriend verification code within 15 minutes of requesting access. Access to a device in another location is allowed for 7 consecutive days.
According to the company, users who travel with their primary device will have no problem accessing Netflix elsewhere. To ensure smooth access to Netflix, the user must connect to her WiFi from a primary location at least every 31 days.
Netflix added a new feature last year called “profile transfer” to combat the phenomenon of account password sharing. This feature will allow users who currently share their accounts to keep their personalized recommendations, viewing history, My Lists, Saved Games, and other settings when creating their own Netflix account.
Each plan specifies the number of devices that can access Netflix at the same time, and as long as they belong to the same household members, the viewing experience will not be affected. Netflix added that it "verifies devices in the home by tracking IP addresses, device IDs, and account activity from devices signed into Netflix accounts.
