Story: Expanding Yrf’s spy universe (previously led by Salman Khan’s Tiger & Hrithik Roshan’s Kabir), the film is an origin story of an ex-army man turned undercover agent Pathaan (Shah Rukh Khan) and his arch nemesis, Jim (John Abraham).
Pathaan Movie Review: An event movie of sorts that marks Shah Rukh Khan's return to the big screen after four long years, Pathaan is an ambitious action thriller that flirts with the gallery and lives up to the hype. Pathaan is outrageously written, but full of star power and style. Pathaan first looks like a cinematic Mountain Dew commercial and slowly but surely takes hold.
The Plot follows India's repeal of Article 370 (the special status of Jammu and Kashmir) and the influence of Pakistani officers to demand payment from India for this "wrong". He turns to the formidable Jim, a former RAW agent who has been wronged by his own people. He joins up with his pompous accomplice Rubai, a former ISI agent (Deepika Padukone) with ambiguous motives. Pattern, Jim, and Rubai meet Eyes and Horns as they traverse continents in a dangerous game of betrayal and revenge. The three race to destroy and protect the world they each believe in.
Director Siddharth Anand over treats his spy thriller. He portrays it like a superhero movie that requires a massive disbelief lift—his fascination with mainstream Hollywood blockbusters such as the Marvel movies and Tom Cruise's Mission Impossible series. And fanboy worship is evident here.Falcon-inspired wingsuits, over-the-top action and chase sequences, death and gravity-defying stunts in cars, motorcycles, ice cream, and helicopters, immortals that make up intense dialogue. Expect heroes and villains, femme fatales, and it's all built on the very idea that patriotism permeated.
Action takes precedence over emotion for much of the film. This is new territory for SRK, who is best loved for her romantic and conversational roles. At the age of 57, he is a full-fledged action hero, and it is interesting that he moves his body with impressive eyes. It's his presence that saves the average script and his subpar VFX. The film's score by Vishal & Shekhar manages to reflect the heroism and bravery on display, although the background music isn't perfectly in sync with the scenario.
A highlight of Pathaan is also John Abraham's solid portrayal of Jim. Whether it's his Bane-esque masked performance or stunt sequences, Jon is menacing and pulls off the classic case of the villain partially obscuring the hero.
Deepika Padukone can kick ass and is perfectly cast as a loyal, morally ambiguous long-legged agent, but her chemistry with SRK feels immature. It lacks the spark to do. Dimple Kapadia creates another credo, bringing much-needed seriousness and emotional weight to the proceedings. They wanted the other characters to radiate the sincerity of their roles.
The YRF Spy Universe reunites Karan and Arjun (wink wink) and delivers the iconic whistling moment when Bhai meets Badshah. Pathaan has all the elements of a masala pot his boiler, if you're willing to miss the flirtatiousness of dialogue like "You're pretty messed up." A smoldering Shah Rukh Khan who puts up a good fight both on and off screen. He is still the undisputed champion.
PS: wait for the post credits scene.
